UnidosUS Action Expresses Disappointment Following Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Affirmative Action

Jun 29, 2023

Washington, D.C. -- The UnidosUS Action Fund, a Latino advocacy organization that works to expand the influence and political power of the Latino community, has announced today that it is disheartened by the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse affirmative action in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. (SFAI) v. President and Fellows of Harvard and SFAI v. University of North Carolina.

Statement from UnidosUS Action Fund Executive Director Rafael Collazo

"After nearly 60 years of progress, today’s decision to overturn affirmative action is a significant setback that is poised to hinder our country from delivering on the promise of justice and liberty for all. With Latino youth representing the fastest growing population today, their ability to achieve upward mobility is critical to the economic health of our country. This ruling serves only to sustain pervasive systemic barriers which have yet to be fully dismantled. The UnidosUS Action Fund believes in the moral imperative that we have as a nation to ensure that our most underserved communities are given the chance to succeed. Access to education and employment opportunities are critical to that goal and limiting these stands to negatively impact our country as a whole.”
